Now that hurricane season is underway, let's talk tips and safety! First of all, what is the difference between a Hurricane Watch and a Hurricane Warning? Well, a Hurricane Watch, which is less severe, means that hurricane conditions are a threat within 48 hours. This is the time to review your checklist, solidify your plans, etc. A Hurricane Warning, on the other hand, means that hurricane conditions are expected within 36 hours. All preparations should be completed by this point. Know your plan. If a warning is issued, be ready to evacuate and know where to find shelter. Remember, preparation is the best protection! Do not wait until the last minute. Below, you will see a standard checklist. It is recommended that you keep these items at hand during hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30.

  2. Food - nonperishable and easily prepared
