Tornadoes Scalp The Indians

September 3, 2017
David A. Rodgers

Good Evening Tornado Nation and Tornado Fans everywhere, this is Mr. Friday Night David Rodgers, Voice of the Bradford Tornadoes with this week’s WEAG 106.3 Eagle Country 106.3Radio Blog.

Last Friday Night the 2017 Tornadoes had their first road game of the season as they had to travel North US 301 to Baldwin, Florida to take on the Indians at Earl Fouracre Field and the Tornadoes got a much need win as they scalped the Indians 33-7 in a weather delayed call game due to a bad lightning and rain storm and there was still 10:24 left in the 4th quarter.

Big Kevin and I was saying Déjà Vu all over and if you have been following any of our radio broadcast, this is mine and Kevin start of our second season calling Tornado Football. Baldwin is where we got our start last year doing the Kickoff Classic game between these 2 teams. What could go wrong did go wrong in our first broadcast and we managed to get through it and so did the Tornadoes that night just managing a 14-14 tie with the Indians.

The Tornadoes entered this game 0-1 and the Indians 1-0 after crushing the Hamilton County Trojans 48-8, but the Tornadoes showed and flexed their muscle and dominated this game after the Indians got a 71 yard punt return for a TD, the offense and defense went back to basics, getting away from the spread offense and rushing the football against the Indians, the Tornadoes rushed for 200 yards, as SR RB Tally Chandler and JR RB Jeremiah Vaughan along with some key rushing plays by SR QB Zion Barber kept the Indians offense on the field for a long time and never really gave Gavin Screws and the Indian offense much of a chance to get anything going and this forced Screws to throw 4 Interceptions, 2 of them to SR DB Chris Cummings that he took to the house, a 41 yarder and a 28 yarder. Jimtaz Curry also had a tip drill interception from the DE Position as he batted the ball to himself and returned it 28 yards back to the 3-yard line to set up another Tornado score. The Tornadoes also had a fumble recovery and several pass break ups.

This game was the New Channel 4 Game of The Week and it showed as the Baldwin Indian Fans showed up in full force to support their team but the Tornadoes silenced the crowd as the game went on and it turned out to be a non-factor as they cruised to this win. Big Kevin and I have the privilege to pick the Beef O Brady’s Player of The Game each week during the season and without question this week it is none other than SR WR / DB Chris Cummings. This young man had 2 Interception Returns for Touchdowns, but also had a 61-yard Reception for a TD, 2 Pass Break Ups and on numerous tackles for the Tornadoes. Not only was he the Beef O Brady’s Player of the Game but he was also the News Channel 4 Area Player of the Week. Congratulations Chris.

Now the Tornadoes must put this win behind them and concentrate on their next opponent the 2-0 Keystone Heights Indians as they come into David Hurse Stadium and look to scalp those Tornadoes at home and take a great victory back to Keystone, but hold on just a minute that is and will be easier said than done. The Tornadoes have momentum coming into this game and with the Big Red Nation cheering on our team this will be no easy task.

For the Tornadoes to win this game they will need to do the same things that got them that big win at Baldwin last week. Coach Tomlinson and his Staff need to get in a good week of practice with our football team and work on the basics and fundamentals, blocking and tackling, running the football to set up the pass, sustain blocks from the O-Line, our WR’S to catch the football, and on defense stop the Indian Rushing attack at the line of scrimmage for little or no yards, do not get beat on the long pass, make your tackles in open, and great special teams. If the Tornadoes can do that then I believe the Tornadoes can win this game and go 2-1 on this young season.

So we encourage our Tornado Fans to wear all red and go out live to David Hurse Stadium in Beautiful Starke, Florida and cheer on the Team but if you can’t please tune in to all the Live Play By Play Action with David Rodgers and Big Kevin Howe this Friday Night September 8th with the Pregame Show @7:15 and Kickoff @7:30 on WEAG Eagle Country 106.3.
