PERFECT DISTRICT FINISH-ON THE ROAD TO STATE PLAYOFFS!

October 29, 2016

Well Tornado Nation, it is officially over and the end result is that your 2016 Bradford Tornadoes Football Team is the Class 4A District 3 Champions and accomplished this feat with a perfect 4-0 record something that has not happened here in Bradford since the early 2000 seasons with a 68 to 26 shellacking of the Interlachen Rams at David Hurse Stadium. This means that the Tornadoes will host a state playoff game in 2 weeks with the likely opponent being the Dunellon Tigers who is the Runner Up in Class 4A District 4. South Sumter defeated Mount Dora in a big way and captured the District Title. The Santa Fe Raiders are the Runner Ups in our district as they thwarted the Keystone Heights Indians to sew that spot up. As for the football game the Tornadoes man handled the Rams all night. Bradford won the coin toss and deferred till the second half. We kicked the ball off and from play one you just seen the dominance of the Tornadoes as we stopped them on 3 straight possessions and amassed a 14 to 0 lead and early it looked like this would be a cakewalk but the Rams managed on back to back drives to cut the lead to one point 14 to 13 as they hit a long pass 63 yards for a TD and on the ensuing KO Jeremiah Vaughan received the kick and during the return he tried to lateral the ball back and lost it and the Rams recovered the loose ball and were back in business at the Bradford 20 yard line. Three plays later a Ram TD and a blocked extra point by the Tornado Special Teams and it was 14 to 13. But that is when the momentum shifted back to the Tornadoes on the next drive as the offense just took over and scored at will and with a 55 to 13 lead at halftime it was time for the running clock in the second half and the Rams scored a couple of late TDs and the final score was 68 to 26 and the celebration began. It was a great night to be a Tornado! For Senior Night we recognized 30 seniors: 9 football players, 11 cheerleaders and 10 band members for their great contributions to the Bradford program in their 4 years at the high school. I could ramble on about individual status and scores but when it was said and done this was a Team and Community effort from the coaches and players, administrative staff, to the cheerleaders, the band and all the fans that came out to watch and cheer on the team to victory, and all local sponsors that give and support Tornado Football. The Bradford Offense was on point as the OL opened up holes that you could drive a Mack truck thru and the RBs were 10 yards down the field and more before getting touched by the Rams defense. Unofficially the Tornadoes had over 500 yards of total offense and most of those yards were on the ground. The Defense was solid and shutdown the Rams with swarm tackling and shutting down and blowing up plays before they got started all night long. Special Teams played very well and did not allow long run backs and our return teams kept giving our offense great field position to start drives. The Tornadoes 6-1 will now go on the road to close out the regular season next Friday Night when they travel to play Crescent City and close out the regular season campaign and finish with a 7-1 overall record and go into the state playoff game on a winning note. If you can’t make the road trip to Crescent City you can catch all the play by play and color commentary with David Rodgers and Big Kevin Howe with the best producers around Chuck Kramer and Lyn Veliz with the Pregame Show @7:15 and Kickoff @7:30 on Eagle Country 106.3.
